For those of you that are new to electronics, here is a set of steps (a design method) that can save you a significant amount of time.

Step 1 - Requirements:
This design will control up to two motors related to their direction and speed.

Step 2 - Specification:
The device specification indicates that the SN754410 can operate at 1A from 4.5 - 36V. The maximum surge current is 2A (for no longer than 5ms). Motor selection must consume less than 1 Amp at a voltage bellow 12V DC.

Step 3 - Partitioning:
Since this project is small there is no need to split the project up into smaller portions or decide which functions are software and hardware. However, we will break up this project into the following sections to help understand the process........
