Hit Count Manager


When using hit counters driven by Perl or CGI Scripts you can
become overwhelmed with counter files. Sure you can look at 
page popularity within your web system but it comes at the 
expense of your time. HitCountMgr.exe is a hit counter manager 
tool that reads in all of the current day counter files and 
produces a set of files that contain the running totals of 
daily, difference and raw clicks. You can view these files by 
clicking the "View summary" button, this button will display 
the currently selected counter type found in Options.

Not only will it tabulate your daily totals it also inserts 
additional counters or removes deleted counters. This means 
that if you were to add a new counter to your web system, 
HitCountMGR will add this counter to all of the previous daily 
files keeping all counter names in alignment.

Simply download your counter files to a local folder containing 
HitCountMgr.exe and HitCountMgr.ini. If your counters have the 
“txt” extension you are ready to start, if not then the 
HitCountMgr.ini file contains initialization settings that will 
allow you to customize the programs behavior. Double click 
HitCountMgr.exe and a window will appear that shows the counters 
found and the current daily files found. If daily files are 
present the total hits for each day are shown at the right of 
the file name, you can change this total to Day, Diff or Raw 
from the “Options” menu.

The first time you run this tool the daily files will be empty. 
Now click “Build to days counters”, this will read in all of 
your counter files and produce a single file containing all 
of the counters found. This file will have a unique file name 
comprised of a three character name with to days date plus 
extension.

Now click “Merge all day files”, this will build a set of new 
files called CountersDay.doc, CountersDiff.doc and 
CounterdRaw.doc. These files contain the name of each counter 
followed by the counts per day, difference or raw for ever day 
file found. For example:
